Welcome to the first edition of Signals & Stories. I’ve been around this industry long enough to see platforms rise and fall, creative formats go in and out of fashion, and the definition of “good marketing” change more times than I can count. But some shifts are bigger than cycles; they actually reshape how brands grow.
That’s what I want this newsletter to focus on: the signals that matter and the stories that explain them.
📌 Trend 1: Social Media Becomes a Sales Floor
We used to say, “Social is for awareness; performance lives elsewhere.” That line is fading. Today, TikTok Shop, Instagram Checkout, and even retail media tie-ins are turning social into a direct sales floor.
The real challenge for marketers isn’t launching campaigns on each channel. It’s building synergy across them so a customer sees a product on TikTok, gets retargeted on Instagram, and completes the purchase seamlessly in your store or app. That’s not media planning; that’s experience design.
📌 Trend 2: Attention is Fragile; Creative Must Be Sharper
If there’s one truth in 2025, it’s this: attention has never been shorter.
Scroll speed is faster, distractions are everywhere, and your brand has maybe three seconds to earn its place. That doesn’t mean creativity dies. It means creativity has to be simpler, sharper, and more immediate. Storytelling is still king, but the stories must be snackable. Win the first second, and you earn the right to tell more.
Thoughts
These two shifts, social turning into sales and creativity racing against shrinking attention, aren’t temporary trends. They’re the new baseline.
Marketers who adapt will stop wasting time chasing awareness for its own sake and start building frictionless journeys that convert attention into action.
This is just the beginning. In the next edition of Signals & Stories, I’ll unpack more of the changes reshaping marketing in 2025, from real-time signals to personalization that actually feels human.
